Well, it has finally come...Scott's 1st Birthday! This day last year I was wiped out after 14 hours of rather easy labor (the first 3 hours without drugs were AWFUL), and we had our beautiful baby boy. I still can't believe he's here, but it feels like we have never been without him.
We celebrated Scott's birthday last Monday before Adam and Jessica and their family moved to Winnemucca (still not happy about that), and the whole gang got together at Jenny and Brent's house for the party. 10 kids and 6 adults, with lots of presents and yummy train cake (thanks Jen for the pattern!).
Today Scott got to meet Santa for the 2nd time at our ward Christmas Breakfast with Santa...as you can see, Scott's still not too sure about Santa. But at least we got him to sit on Santa's lap for 2 seconds.
Then Matt and I celebrated one more time with Scott tonight and opened a few more presents we kept aside from Grandma and Grandpa Dunyon, Grandma and Grandpa Fowers, and Great-Grandma and Great-Grandpa Storer. Our living room is now Scott's toy room...literally.
I'm sure most of you have heard the extensive news reports about the snow we've had here this past week...but here are a few pictures of our home to really give you the nitty on how much snow we had here.
This is the type of snow I can live with...here for a couple of days, pretty and fun to play in, and then the world is sunny and green again! It's the most snow we've had since 1979...global warming, what?!? Maybe the ice caps have relocated to Las Vegas, and that's what's causing the global warming elsewhere!
So enjoy the pictures and thank you to everyone for making Scott's 1st birthday the best one he's ever had! :)

Trouble
So this is the daily ritual lately while I'm in the shower furiously trying to get myself ready...
As you can see, Scott has already learned the art of being too cute to get upset about the mess.
And on top of that, he looks at me as though to say, "I was bringing some toilet paper for you!"

Who Is It?
Ever since Scott was born, everyone has commented how Scott is a "Mini-Matt". Well, just to really test all of you - here's a picture of one of them...can you tell if it's Matt or Scott? p.s. - don't be fooled by the coloring of the photo...remember I know how to use Photoshop!
And for more kicks...here's a picture of each of them -
This one is Matt
And this one is Scott (notice this crib has bumpers!)

I've been Tagged...
So I was tagged by Sarah today and the tag was to go to my picture file and pick the fourth picture of the fourth folder so this is what I found..
.
This is a picture of our wedding day (obviously), just outside the San Diego Temple, and these are my crazy brothers and sisters...notice the pointy fingers on three of my sisters. This is when the Wiggles were just getting really popular, and they each had children who were WAY into the Wiggles. I think for Halloween that year my sister Jenny even dressed her two kids up like two of the Wiggles and then she and her husband were the other two Wiggles. Wow. My brothers were way too cool to reveal any partiality towards the Wiggles, so they just looked cool. And Sarah is just too cute for words anyway - she was the cutest bridesmaid that day.
So thanks for the tag and short walk down memory lane - 6 1/2 years ago!!
Now I tag Catherine Yates, Lori Pryor, and Rachel McEwen - I'll be checking your blogs!!

Happy Halloween!
Now that the sugar kick has relented a little, I can actually sit down for more than 2 minutes and comment about Scott's first Halloween. I was really surprised that he wasn't more freaked out at our Trunk-or-Treat the other night when he saw everyone dressed up, and he was more interested than freaked out by the smoke machine and scary faces. We Trunk-or-Treated a little to give him the experience and to get us a little candy (c'mon, you have all done it, too), and he loved it! He didn't even complain about having to wear his pumpkin costume - designed to keep him warm, but not necessary in the 78 degree evening we had Thursday night.
We took a break from Trick-or-Treating Halloween night and instead stayed in to see other spooks and goblins come to our door and carve pumpkins with Matt's mom and dad who are in town visiting. - All you Ute fans out there, this should tell you a little more about Matt's obsession with the U, and how slow it was at work for him Friday - he found and traced the pattern on his pumpkin at work.
Happy Halloween!

The Saddest Day

This post is the hardest one I've ever had to post, so it'll be a short one. Last night our sweet puppy (actually she's 8 years old, but we call her our puppy) Sophie decided it was time to go Home. She was diagnosed with congestive heart failure about a year and a half ago and last night it finally was too much for her and her little body couldn't handle it anymore, so we decided to let her go Home. It was definitely the hardest thing we have ever had to do, but we know that she's happy and not hurting anymore. We'll miss her so much.

Daddy Time
I went in to Dr. Utley's office to do a little work for a couple of hours last night, and this is what happened while I was away....some good "Daddy Time" don't you think? :)

Getting Started Early
We figured that it was about time to start Scott on how to help out around the house...you know, pull his weight and all. I mean, he is starting to eat more, so it's the least he can do in these troubled economic times. So last week Matt strapped Scott into a backpack and started the training...
I think he got the hang of it pretty quickly; he's definitely got the supervisory skills down, so it's not going to take much to actually get him behind the mower. Although, we will have to first make sure he gets the walking thing down - something that will probably happen within the next few months here, so stay tuned!

It's Done! It's Done!
After almost 2 years in the making/constructing, our entertainment center is done!! We finished sanding and painting the doors yesterday morning at 6:00am and put them on in the afternoon. Kudos to Matt for building the whole thing from pictures I pulled off the internet - the boy has skillz!
Here's the before picture (the space was just open):
Here are the during pictures:

Here's the completed picture!!
The funny thing about all the building that goes on with the nail gun, sander, and table saw is that Sophie chooses places to hide during all the "scary noise". So we took pictures of her hiding in some of her choice places.
And a little update on what we've been doing the last month:
Scott is getting bigger and bigger! He has decided that he doesn't need to be swaddled anymore when he goes to sleep, and now that he rolls around everywhere, we're finding him in the funniest sleeping positions:
Then we took Scott for his first hike up to Mary Jane Falls yesterday morning - beautiful! He loved every minute of it - even the 55 degree weather!! (Notice the wide-open mouth of excitement).
My cute niece Madison turned 8 yesterday and was lucky enough to be baptized on her birthday, so we all got together to celebrate - I can't believe she's 8 already!!
So we've had some fun this last month - and the latest news is that my sister Wendy gave birth to her baby girl Elizabeth Anne (I think that's the name they're decided on) yesterday as well - I'm sure Madison will love sharing her birthday with her cousin...in our family, it's not a surprise that we're starting to double up on birthdays!!

Our Funny Boy
We got a new little swimming pool yesterday (love the end of summer clearance), and decided to try it out. Scott is our little water baby and loves to play, and of course, I couldn't resist taking pictures. I don't think I have ever seen so many expressions on the face of a baby before - you know exactly what he's thinking! So if you need to cool off in about 5 inches of water, feel free to stop on by!

Hot Wheels
A few weeks ago Aaron and Brooke brought us their walker to use - love having family with lots of babies! - and at first Scott was a little unsure of this new contraption, but now he's a pro!
He tries to reach for everything and has discovered how to open drawers and cupboards....Safety latches here we come! His favorite drawer is the one in the kitchen with all my washcloths and bibs in it. Sophie can no longer rest wherever she wants, and I think she has already learned how to sleep with one eye open when Scott's on the prowl.

Hot summer nights
On hot summer nights, who wouldn't want to work in a hot garage building shelves?! Matt and Dad were crazy enough (and cajoled enough by me) to get started building a desk and shelves for our office, so Saturday night after James' baptism, they converted the garage to a workshop and got gritty. So far the unit looks fantastic! They got the bulk of the work done in a few hours and now all Matt has to do is the "pretty" stuff.
And...the other big news is that I got really tired of having strangly hot hair, so I chopped it off!! That's what happens when you have two hairdressers together in one place. But I love it short and it's MUCH cooler and easier to do (now that I've had a week to practice). So thanks Mom and Sarah for making my hair look cute - Matt loves it, too!
And I can't create a post without a picture of our growing boy! He loves the pool (and loves the spa even more - or is that me?) and has become quite the chatty smiley boy as well - it's never tough to get him to smile for the camera.
Yesterday I came back from putting Scott down for a nap and found that Sophie had taken Pooh Bear captive - I think she still needs to learn how to share toys with Scott.
